Meet Oye

Adeoye “Oye” Owolewa is the current US Representative for the District of Columbia. Oye was raised by two hard working parents from Nigeria who instilled in him two fundamental pillars: a deep appreciation for community service and a passion for science. After high school, Oye earned his Doctorate in Pharmacy from Northeastern University. Oye currently works as a Pharmacist at a local grocery store here in DC.

On the Issues

In 2020, Oye was elected as US Representative and became the only citywide elected official who lives East of the river. Upon his historic election, he also became the first Nigerian-American ever elected U.S. Representative. While championing DC Statehood, he’s also taken a leadership role in the most pressing issues facing DC residents: improving community health & public safety safety, empowering DC youth, supporting minority and women-owned businesses, and promoting environmental justice.
